Google Trying to Offer Hosted Services

| | Comments (8)
Jmcc forwarded a press release from Google earlier this morning where the search engine giant espoused its plans for hosted services. I can see quite a few google fans getting excited about this, but I seriously doubt that they'll stick around after they've encountered Google's customer (dis)service.

Yep there desparate to get into the enterprise market where MS make all their cash.

I had spoken to a couple of people that were interested in the hosted email package released a couple of months ago but the reservations were that you became 100% reliant on Google infrastructure and AFAIK Google doe not guarantee data integrity. And as you say Google certainly aren't renowned for customer service (unless you like automated responses).

So far everything they are offering as part of the package is fairly robust and stable, if you include google desktop as part of the download (so you can view old emails off line) this is a pretty nifty all in one solution.

Yes if you do start getting "oops try agin messages" it could be a major disaster.

But what do you think the chance would be the apps service will be more reliable?

the anecdotal evidence I've heard would suggest that even the simplest of technical support queries are not being dealt with in a timely fashion. While there are always a proportion of any user base who do not encounter issues of any kind they are anything but the majority

I have to say im amazed. I have been using gmail for about 2 years, the only problem I have had is the occasional “oops try agin messages" and I have been using calender for a while now, and again have not had any problems.

Im really interested to hear what problems other people have had, as I was going to recommend the apps service to a few people I know and would hate to suggest something that doesn't work.
