Irish Or European Alternative To Wordpress?
As I mentioned some time ago, the Wordpress site does not list ANY non-US hosting companies.
They're now running an adwords campaign with the text "Top 5 Wordpress Web hosts, Chosen by the users & developers
of the WordPress blogging software"
Lovely!
They won't list non-US hosts and they expect the public to swallow their bull about the listed providers having been "chosen"
So, my question is...
Does anyone know of an alternate blogging software / platform that isn't so US-centric?

I'm surprised to see that, given the obvious Irish involvement with WordPress. It would be great if they setup a scheme for hosts/agents around the globe. It could be managed very easily.
As someone who relies on both Wordpress and Blacknight, I know how well the two play together!

They don't care. They're doing that wonderful American trick of sticking their heads in the sand like ostriches and yelling "America is the centre of the universe"
It really gets on my nerves!

Perhaps they could have an official partner in every country, for commercial support/consulting, etc., like Moodle do.

James - Any attempts I've made to contact them about this have been met with deafening silence.

BTW, is there any way you could make the Amazon links a bit more obvious? It's annoying to hover over a link and have product information panel pop up. Double-underlining, maybe?
Keith - I'll have a look at the code generation on the Amazon side. If I can't change them I'll just remove them. It was more of an experiment than anything else ...
Michele, Amazon gives you the option to have differently-coloured or double-underlined links for that thing. Is anyone actually buying stuff through it, by the way?
RE: Wordpress, does it really matter which hosts they list? It's just a tool, after all, and PHP hosting is sufficiently common these days that it should run more or less everywhere.

Re Wordpress - I think you're missing my point. The kind of people who are likely to choose hosts based on the WP site recommendations won't be aware of PHP
I would just like to point out that ostriches don't stick their head in the sand.

I advise you to checkout DotClear 2. It is a French project, and I find it much nicer than WordPress.

In case you still doubt about the power of this system, I can only advice you to visit some serious websites, such as :

Make sure to fetch the 2 (it is much nicer than the one, more complete, more flexible, and has many great features for fighting spam).
You can add a nice spam-fighting plugin called 'spamplemousse'.

Well, this is partially European, but probably not quite what you're looking for (almost impossible to host on a standard shared web hosting system, and so on).
