Apple Releases iPod Touch

Apple's PR and marketing team must be rushed off their feet today, as the company released a number of new products and services with not one but six press releases!

The iPod Touch is the logical next step for the iPod as it combines many of the functions in the over-hyped iPhone. (Yes - I'm sure it's cute, but if I read another blog post about the iphone I will scream!)

The new iPod is a lot more than a simple media player. It also comes with wifi and Apple's Safari browser, as well as support for Google search, Youtube and more.

The iPod touch is a landmark iPod, ushering in a whole new generation of features based on its revolutionary multi-touch interface and built-in Wi-Fi wireless networking,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “People are going to be amazed at how thin it is and how much it does.”

I would post pricing details, but the Apple site seems to be under a bit of pressure *cough*

I was just checking this out and the iPod Touch is priced at €299 for the 8GB model and €399 for the 16GB model.

My first reaction when I saw this was to go "Oh shiny. I want one". After a bit of thought, I found it hard to justify spending €300 on a new iPod when my current iPod works perfectly OK, even though I barely use it. So no iPod Touch for me.

You're obviously not as much of a gadget geek / freak as me :)

I woke up this morning with second thoughts - I've already decided what I want engraved on the back. But yet I still can't justify the expense. It'll probably take a couple of days for my conscience to let go of my wallet, and I'll just end up getting one anyway :)

I ordered mine the other day. Doesnt ship until the 28th or around that time though :(

Chris

You're a victim of Apple's marketing :)

Maybe you should wait a couple of months before ordering, that way it should be a couple of hundred dollars cheaper to buy ;)

Francesco

I can't see the point of getting any of these devices until they support more options. Yes they look cute, but my N95 runs rings around it

I totally agree with you: as long as Apple keeps on crippling its own products I will stay away as much as I can too :)

Btw... did you see the new N95 with 8Gb HD? I actually also need a new phone... but before buying anything I want to see the new SE W950i :)

Francesco

Was this the one that Nokia was taunting everyone with over the last couple of weeks? An 8 gig hard drive would be nice, though I probably wouldn't have a real need for it at the moment ... I know other people who would

Jepp... not very original, isn´t it?

they just updated 2 of their existing models with an 8Gb HD for multimedia... But at least now they also ship the N95 in black.

See http://www.nseries.com/

Francesco

Typical! Now if they offered a free upgrade from the current model to the black ones I'd be happy :)

I guess your best chance is buying a spraycan of black paint at the closest "do-it-yourself" store ;)
