Low Fat Frying Rocks
I mentioned the Actifry back in January, as the idea of deep fat frying without all the grease and oil sounded attractive to me. I didn't buy an Actifry immediately, as I wanted to check pricing etc., before doing so.
Finally yesterday I took the plunge. I'd had an overwhelming desire for chips all day and the old deepfat fryer was binned last week (it wasn't working).
A plate of chips took about 25 minutes to cook and used one small spoon of olive oil (I could have used other oils, but I like olive oil).
The chips tasted as good, if not better, than the "normal" greasy ones.
Even my sister won't be able to give out to me now, as the Actifry uses less oil than a normal salad!

How much did it cost in the end, Michele?
I've taken to doing chips in the oven (the Green Isle chunky variety are quite nice), though coating them with some spray-oil first, give them a nice golden edge.

200 euro, but the benefits are obvious. I cooked chips last night and the kitchen didn't stink of oil or have that greasy air thing afterwards
I tried to get a cheaper one via eBay, but once you factor in shipping you don't save any money
Electrocity which has a shop in Kilkenny is where I got mine. Argos is more expensive

200 euro isn't too bad at all. I haven't fried an awful lot of things in the last few months but doing chips on a spoon of oil sounds an awful lot nicer than the mess of a regular deep fat fryer.
The one I used to have when I lived in Waterford was a disaster. Pure stink after it had been used.
Interesting to see how you get on with any meats / veg in the mix.
Well it should be a lot easier to keep it clean as well. My last deep fat fryer was permanently covered in gunk. This one hardly has any grease in it, yet it cooks what I need.
There's a cookbook / recipe book with it with about 30 recipes, so I'll have to see if any of them are practical
You just made me remember a classic episode from when I was a teenager and my mum left the chip pan on.
It went on fire, and when my mum realised she proceeded to grab a tea towel, pick up the pan by the handle, carry it hurriedly outside and... wait for it... waaaait for it... throw another full pan of water over it!
Singed hair and grotty teenager cries of 'DUUUUHHHHHHHH' from me were the end result.

Me too, sure I nearly became a chef, and i've a wonderful 'fight club' style burn mark on my right forearm due to a pile of insanely hot fajita sizzler plates falling out of a pizza oven onto my arm!
