DemoDemo Crazy Offer

| | Comments (2)
Over the past couple of years I've deal with Vito from DemoDemo quite a bit. He's a cool guy and their demos have saved us a fortune!

Earlier this evening he sent a lot of his clients an email which really caught my attention.

They're celebrating 5 years in business this month so he's offering a "set your own price" deal! Basically you hop over to their hosting tutorials page. Choose what you want to order and then send them an offer.

Interesting marketing tactic to say the least! I hope it doesn't backfire on him :)
One of the things about popular films is that they are guaranteed to create a sort of pricing war in the online shops.

The latest Harry Potter film is no different. The more popular online shops are listing the pre-release pricing and the deals are quite interesting, though Play.com seems to be slightly ahead of the crowd.

Now what on earth would I do with a Harry Potter doll?

Get A Ringside View at the Oscars

|
Getting to see all the stars as they walk down the red carpet at next year's Oscars does not have to be a dream.

The Academy is offering 300 fans the chance to win seats on the red carpet leading into the Kodak Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center.

You will be able to apply online from Monday September 17 at noon PST (Pacific Standard Time) until the following Monday, September 24.

The awards take place on Sunday February 24.

DNZoom Are Hiring

DNZoom, which I reviewed some time ago, is hiring.

The job, which is based in Louisville, KY, USA, is for Advanced PHP Developers.

Full details on their blog

Why do I mention it?

Very simply because I know how hard it is to get staff!
I got another delivery from Amazon today. It came in its usual stiff cardboard which contained some advertising from their partner companies. As it was Amazon US the partner offers were a bit American biased, which is only to be expected, however one of them really got my eye: The Noble Collection.

Wow!

If you are a film buff, or know one, then this is one of those sites you might want to take a look at.

Its focus is on the big production films such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Narnia, but some of the stuff they're selling is truly impressive, though the pricing is too!

The only thing that I could afford without feeling guilty is one of these pens:
staff-pen-gandalf.jpgIt is nice, but wholly impractical!

Of course you could always go closer to home  orget yourself a nice little dragon to brighten up your mantelpiece:

Pity the US shop won't ship to Ireland, but I guess I'll live...

High Definition DVD Players?

|

Anyone who knows me soon realises that I am quite passionate about film.

While other guys like to plonk themselves on the couch to watch the big match, I'm a lot happier watching the latest DVD releases or some random film on Sky (though that is becoming increasingly rare due to their stupid timetable).

With the current format wars I feel that the only way to possibly win is by forking out for a multiformat player of some kind. The only one I've come across is from LG.

LG BH-100 HD/DVD/Blu-Ray Disc Player

It looks like a pretty nice piece of kit, but I'm not sure that I am up to paying that kind of money, especially when I know that:
  • Prices will drop
  • Standard DVD players cost as little as 40 euro
  • I don't have any Blu Ray or HD DVD discs yet apart from some multi-format ones from the US
However I don't know which format is going to win out in the end, so I'd almost prefer to hedge my bets.

The problem remains, however, that the only player I can find is damn expensive!

Google Flight Simulator On Linux

|
The latest release of Google Earth comes with an Easter Egg (a hidden function / option).

Techcrunch picked up on the story from Marco Gallotta

And the nice thing is that it also works on Ubuntu!

Download the latest version for Linux. Install it (you'll need to change the permission first - chmod 700 GoogleEarthLinux.bin will probably work) and off you go.
Once Google Earth has launched simply hit CTRL - ALT - A (case insensitive) and you  should be flying (or crashing!)

Bugatti Veyron on Top Gear

| | Comments (5)
I'm not a car fan, but I do appreciate engineering feats combined with gorgeous design.

The Bugatti Veyron is a monster of a machine and can hit over 400 Km / hour at top speed. Of course the problem with any of these super cars is finding somewhere to actually run them at that speed. It's not likely to happen on a normal motorway!

The Top Gear team are always trying crazy things with cars, so why would their treatment of the Bugatti Veyron be any different?

Have a look at this to get an idea:
