Domains & Hosting: January 2008 Archives
I'm back in the office this morning and trying to catch up on emails etc.,
If you've emailed me in the last week or so and haven't got a reply now you know why :)
Of course if your email didn't have a semantic subject line I probably won't find it ever - sorry!
I've also got a bit tired of clients being negatively affected by Wordpress' dumb caching (or simple lack of it!) which has led to this.
All I'll say is this. When this site made it onto the frontpage of Digg the server barely flinched. If I'd been using a default install of Wordpress the site would have taken out the entire server...

It looks like Bebo.ie is returning to its rightful owners!
I found out last year that the guys behind DomainFest liked to party and the 007 themed night was pretty incredible (even if some of it can never be spoken about in polite company!). This year it sounds like they're trying to top themselves and, according to Frank, will have not one, not two, but three Playboy stars at the opening night cocktail party!
More sordid details chez Frank
EDIT: Of course in my stupidity I referred to "playgirls" and not to playboy centerfolds or playboy bunnies. Sorry about the confusion! I meant to refer to playboy centrefolds!

Couple of quick notes....
I've finally put some content on a subdomain off technology.ie. I've setup some forums there to take over from a now defunct forum I was running... Why? Well the old domain name wasn't particularly "strong" so using a more generic domain may work out better. Of course I could be completely wrong, but experiments like this are fun !
On a completely unrelated topic ...
The annual Blacknight sale hasn't been announced to the public yet but will be later today. To find out about the special reductions and possibly win a prize you'll need to be either a Blacknight client OR a subscriber to the Blacknight newsletter. More details and signup here

I'll be heading off to LA next week to attend DomainFest. (I mentioned some of the highlights on the company blog yesterday)
While I was expecting it to be a fun event I wasn't expecting it to coincide so closely with the latest domain scandal - Network Solutions are up to no good! It seems like the internet industry gets over one bit of furore only for another one to come out of the woodwork.
What will be next?
In any case I expect NetSol's latest ploy to be a hot topic.
Of course a trip to LA would be a bit boring if I was closeted away in a hotel for my entire stay, so I'm hoping to take in a few touristy things over the couple of "free" days prior to the event. I'm not 100% what I'll get up to yet, but LA isn't exactly a boring city, so I'm sure I'll find something to keep myself amused :)
If nothing else I can always go and ogle the new Apple Macs!
